How resin cost adds up
Resin is sold by volume, so the useful number is cost per ml. A $40 bottle of 1000 ml works out to 4 cents per ml. Multiply that by the resin a print actually needs, including supports, and you get the real cost of that model rather than a guess from the bottle price.
Why supports change the math
Supports print in the same resin as the model and then get thrown away, so they are pure cost. A 20 percent support setting adds about a fifth to each print. Delicate models with heavy supports can add more, and a raft or brim adds a little again.
Getting more prints from a bottle
Hollow large models and add drain holes so they use far less resin. Arrange parts efficiently on the plate and combine small models into one run. Scrape the vat clean between colors so leftover resin is not wasted, and store the bottle sealed and out of sunlight.

Should I count gloves, IPA, and filters in the cost?
Those add up over time, but they are shared across many prints. Track them monthly rather than per print if you want to see the true cost of the hobby.
Why did my print use more resin than the calculator said?
The slicer volume and the real vat draw differ. Supports, rafts, and resin left on the plate all add up. Check the slicer estimate after supports are generated for a closer number.
