Why this is a rough estimate

Print time depends on how far the nozzle travels, how often it accelerates, and how much it retracts. Two models of the same height can take very different times because one is a thin tower and the other is a wide plate. This tool assumes a similar amount of path per layer, so use it to plan rather than to promise.

What changes print time the most

Layer height moves the needle fastest, because it sets the number of passes. Thick 0.28 mm layers can finish a part in half the time of fine 0.12 mm layers. Speed matters too, as long as your printer and hotend can actually reach it without starving the nozzle or hurting cooling.

How to use the estimate before you slice

Start with the model height and your usual layer height, then read the layer count. If the estimate is longer than you want, raise the layer height, cut the infill, or split the model. Slice the part and compare the slicer time to this number so you learn how your own printer behaves.

Treat it as a rough starting point, not a promise. Real time depends on how much the nozzle moves per layer, acceleration, travel moves, infill, and cooling. The preview in your slicer after you slice the model is more accurate.

How do I estimate 3D print time myself?

Work out the number of layers by dividing the model height by the layer height. Then think about how much path the nozzle travels each layer. More layers and slower speeds mean more time.

How many layers is a 100 mm print?

At a 0.2 mm layer height, a 100 mm model is about 500 layers. At 0.12 mm it is about 834 layers, which takes longer. Thicker layers finish faster but show more visible lines.

Does layer height change print time?

Yes, and a lot. Thick layers mean fewer passes, so a 0.28 mm print runs much faster than a 0.12 mm print of the same model. The tradeoff is surface detail and layer line height.

Does print speed really change time that much?

It does, up to the point your printer and hotend can keep up. Doubling speed roughly halves the move time on simple parts. Very high speeds can hurt quality and cooling, so tune to your machine.

Why is my actual print slower than the estimate?

Common causes are many small moves, retractions, travel, and time spent on the first layer and cooling. Big prints with dense infill also take longer than the nozzle path alone suggests.

Can I shorten a long print?

Use thicker layers, a larger nozzle, less infill, or split the part into pieces. Each change trades detail or strength for speed, so pick what matters for that part.
